To ensure the safe and smooth movement of pilgrims during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, the Traffic Police have issued a fresh advisory regulating traffic on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44).
Subject to fair weather and road conditions, light motor vehicles, passenger vehicles, private cars, and Yatra convoy vehicles will be allowed to travel from both Jammu and Srinagar. However, load-carrying heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will be permitted only on alternate days, with movement coordinated by the Traffic Control Units.
Heavy vehicles moving towards Srinagar will be allowed from Jakheni (Udhampur) only under traffic and weather clearance, and no HMV will be allowed after 7:00 PM. Empty fuel tankers, LPG carriers, FCI trucks, and vehicles carrying fresh perishable goods have been advised to use the Mughal Road on designated days to reduce congestion on NH-44.
Authorities have urged commuters to travel only during daytime, avoid unnecessary halts in landslide-prone areas between Ramban and Banihal, and strictly follow the notified cut-off timings. Local commuters traveling after cut-off hours must carry valid photo identification for verification.
Heavy vehicle operators have also been instructed to avoid overloading, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and carry sufficient fuel before starting their journey. The Traffic Police have appealed for public cooperation to ensure safe and efficient traffic movement throughout the Yatra period.
