Advanced Practice Provider - Colorectal & General Surgery PA Catholic Health Services•New Hyde Park, NY• Job Details Position Summary CHPP New Hyde Park, part of the Colorectal & General Surgery service line, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join our multidisciplinary surgical practice. This role provides comprehensive support across inpatient, outpatient, and operative settings. The PA will work closely with four board-certified surgeons and one additional APP, functioning with a high degree of autonomy in providing patient care, surgical assistance, and clinical coordination. Sher, MD - Colorectal & General Surgeon Dr. Sher is a board-certified General and Colorectal Surgeon and co-founder of Progressive Surgical Care. He trained at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, completed his residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and completed a colorectal surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Florida. Dr. Sher is recognized as a leader in minimally invasive colorectal surgery and has authored numerous surgical publications. He is known for his patient-centered approach and deep commitment to compassionate, high-quality care. T. Cristina Sardinha, MD, FACS, FASCRS - Colorectal & General Surgeon Dr. Sardinha is a board-certified General and Colorectal Surgeon with more than 20 years of surgical experience. She completed surgical training in Brazil followed by a research fellowship and advanced colorectal surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Florida. She later served as Chief Resident at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Sardinha is internationally recognized for her expertise in laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery and has held leadership positions in several major surgical societies. She is widely respected for both surgical excellence and compassionate patient care. Steven P. Schulberg, DO, FACS - Minimally Invasive & Colorectal Surgeon Dr. Schulberg is a board-certified General Surgeon specializing in minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery. He completed his medical training at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, general surgery residency at NYU Langone-Brooklyn (where he served as Chief Resident), and fellowship training in minimally invasive colorectal surgery at the University of Texas Houston. Dr. Schulberg is known for his modern surgical techniques, strong communication skills, and patient-focused approach. Jane Yang, MD - Colorectal & General Surgeon Dr. Yang is a board-certified General Surgeon with advanced fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida. She earned her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed her general surgery residency at Northwell Health. Dr. Yang provides comprehensive colorectal and general surgical care, with expertise in colonoscopy, minimally invasive procedures, and the management of a wide range of colorectal conditions. She is also multilingual and highly rated for her communication and bedside manner. Schedule & Work Environment Hours: OR days: 7:30 AM start Office days: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Schedule updated daily and confirmed weekly Travel: Yes; approximately 10% to Howard Beach and Forest Hills offices Essential Responsibilities Assist surgeons during operative procedures. Perform daily hospital rounds, including patient assessments and care coordination. Conduct in-office patient visits: evaluations, follow-ups, pre- and post-operative care. Complete clinical documentation and patient-requested forms (e.g., disability, leave forms). Provide patient education, manage pre-surgical questions, and assist with prescription orders and refills. Collaborate effectively with physicians, APPs, nursing staff, and administrative personnel.
