Surendar, who was working at Cheriyal police station, met with an accident on December 29 while travelling from Siddipet to Cheriyal. He was declared brain-dead by doctors at a private hospital.
His wife, Rukmini, agreed to donate his two kidneys, liver and heart.
Appreciating the family’s decision, Commissioner of Police M Vijay Kumar appealed to police personnel and citizens to always wear helmets while riding two-wheelers.
The constable, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained severe head injuries after he slipped from his motorcycle while trying to avoid a street dog that suddenly crossed the road. The Jeevandan team later counselled the family and facilitated the decision to donate the organs.
