At least nine people were on Tuesday killed and over 40 others injured in an explosion in one of the boiler units in the Vedanta power plant in Singhi Tarai village in Chhattisgarh’s Shakti district, officials said. The death toll may increase as conditions of some of the injured persons were stated to be critical, officials said. Majority of the injured people were admitted to a private hospital in the neighbouring district of Raigarh. As many as 18 injured people were brought to the hospital. Five or six of them have died. We are giving priority to the treatment of the injured. Details will be known later”, Raigarh sub-divisional officer (SDO) Mahesh Sharma said. Sources said that some other injured people were admitted to other hospitals.
